Paua

Protecting Kaikōura’s pāua fishery is a community responsibility, according to a recent survey.

The scientific name of the Manawatāwhi pāua, Haliotis pirimoana, was proposed by Ngāti Kuri, which holds historic and territorial rights over the islands.

The limit will drop from 10 to five of each pāua species, per fisher.
