Plans have been revealed for 500 new homes bringing homes, jobs and opportunities to a community that has been on the end of bad publicity for many years.

Foodstuffs closed its New World in Flaxmere in March, citing the building's condition as the reason.

Foodstuffs North Island is not renewing is lease of the Flaxmere New World building resulting in its closure next month.

Wellington had Mittens the cat, Opononi had Opo the Dolphin and now another animal has cemented its celebrity status - this time in the Hawkes Bay
