Ōtara Community Preschool has been broken into with windows and property smashed and items stolen.
The police are asking the public for information and what they described as a “heartless act which has ruined an Ōtara preschool”.
The crime happened between 9am on December 7 and 6pm on December 8.
Counties Manukau East Area Prevention Manager Inspector Rakana Cook said nine internal windows were smashed, along with a microwave and oven and computers were knocked to the ground.
“This type of behaviour is quite frankly disgusting,” Rakana said.
“This is an awful situation. A preschool has been left footing the bill for this crime and children are now without their belongings and educational resources.”
Rakana said the offenders acted in a mindless way, seemingly destroying property for the sake of it.
“We are working hard to identify and locate those responsible for this senseless crime.”
Rakana said they are asking the public to bring forward any information that may help them hold the person or people responsible to account.
“A number of people have come forward with information and spoken to police since this incident, and we ask anyone who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch.”
