The tangihanga for the late Dr Ranginui Walker will be live streamed on Māori Television.com at 10.45am today and tomorrow and can be located by clicking on this link.
The final karakia on Friday will be broadcast live on Māori Television.
Dr Walker will be escorted on to Ōrākei Marae at 11am today and the coverage will continue until Friday.
Māori Television Chief Executive Paora Maxwell says the decision to broadcast the tangi was made in conjunction with the Walker whānau and Ōrākei Marae.
“The broadcast is to honour a man who has contributed much to the Māori renaissance of te reo Māori and the understanding of Māori issues by wider Aotearoa New Zealand,” says Mr Maxwell.
“Making the last rites of a great man available to New Zealanders is important to Māori Television’s central kaupapa of valuing and embracing te reo Māori me ngā tikanga.”
