Mount Albert Grammar School prepare for NZ Hip-hop Dance Championships

Hip-Hop dance crews around the country are nailing down their routines and sharpening their moves ahead of the New Zealand Hip-hop Dance Championships in Auckland this week.  With only two days until the big competition every moment is an opportunity to practice.

Mt Albert Grammar School's mega crew is one of the competing groups fine tuning their dance routines ahead of the New Zealand Hip-hop Dance Championships.

Chloe Benedito says, “Practice, practice, practice.  You know what they say, practice makes perfect, so practice in my own time, not just here but getting everything right , getting it on point.”

Dance teacher Jackson Tuarae says, “It's been quite challenging leading it this year because there are a lot of new timers to the hip-hop scene. There are a few dancers but there more into Jazz and stuff.”

Last year Mount Albert Grammar School came third in the mega crew division, but this year they believe they have the key to success.

Jackson Tuarae says, “Everyone's getting excited, getting to that stage of it's just around the corner. We just finished yesterday so it's a bit messy, so today we are just cleaning it up and hopefully it will look solid.”

The National Hip-hop competition kicks off on Wednesday and the mega crews will take the stage on Friday.
